In the summer of 2020, like many people in Dubai during COVID, we turned to plants. We visited nurseries, picked out plants that looked flush, vibrant and full of life. Within days, most of them were dead. Flower buds that never opened. Leaves that dropped overnight. Plants that simply gave up.
We wanted to know why.
What we eventually understood was that keeping plants alive in UAE conditions is genuinely hard. The heat, the humidity, the air conditioning - most plants simply aren't ready for it. Getting that right takes real care, the right species, the right soil, and the right pot. Nobody was doing all of that together. So we decided to.
We started Green Hands with one simple belief: plants should thrive, not just survive long enough to get home.

From day one, our focus has been simple: we only carry species we know can survive and flourish in UAE conditions. Before anything goes on our website, we test it ourselves. New plants come home with us first. We watch how they respond to UAE humidity, air conditioning, indoor light levels. Only the ones that genuinely thrive make it into our portfolio.
Along the way, we also learned something most plant buyers never realise. Many nurseries spray plants with high-concentration growth boosters mid-week - so by the weekend, when most people shop, the plants look flush, flowering and full of life. Within days of coming home, the effect wears off. The plant hasn't changed. The conditions have. We never do this. What you see is what the plant actually is.

Through years of working with plants across Dubai and Abu Dhabi, we learned something most plant sellers don't tell you: the soil mix matters as much as the plant itself.
Most nurseries pot their plants in pure coco peat. It's light, it aerates the roots well - and on its own, it retains almost no water and carries no nutrients. Plants potted in pure coco peat are essentially running on empty from the moment they leave the nursery. A healthy soil mix solves this, but many nurseries don't provide one - and most customers don't know to ask.
We burned our hands learning this - so you don't have to. Every Green Hands potted plant is planted in an organic soil mix suited to the species, in a premium ceramic or fiber pot that supports healthy root growth.
